The deposit
A $400 deposit holds your kitten and comes off the $800. It transfers to another kitten if you change your mind about which one. If you cannot go ahead at all, $300 of it is refunded. Nothing is paid for a kitten that has not been born, and nothing is paid for a kitten you have not seen photographed that day.
Not included
Delivery. Every journey, whether we meet you in Sedona, part way in the rest of Arizona, or your kitten flies to your city, is quoted for your address before you commit; the delivery page explains each option. Spaying or neutering is not included unless we say so for a particular kitten, and our own practice requires it by six months.
Why one price
Because a kitten's color and sex have nothing to do with what it costs to raise or what it will be like to live with. Catteries that charge more for a rare color are charging for scarcity, not for a better cat. Our seal bicolors, blue bicolors and cream point are the same price because they were raised in the same room by the same hands.
Why Ragdoll prices vary so much in the United States
You will see Ragdoll kittens advertised from four hundred dollars to four thousand. At the bottom of that range are kittens sold at six or eight weeks with no vaccination, no vet check and often no Ragdoll in them beyond the eyes. At the top are show catteries selling breeding rights, imported lines and the cost of showing. In between is what a well-raised pet kitten costs: the vet visits, the vaccinations, the microchip, twelve weeks of food for a litter and its mother, and twelve weeks of a person's time. Our price sits where it does because we raise a few litters in a house rather than many in a shed.
What the first year costs
The kitten is the smallest part of it. Budget for the third vaccination and spaying or neutering in the first six months, a scratching post, a carrier, bowls, a tray and litter for a year, food at roughly the cost of a coffee a day, and pet insurance if you want it, which for a Ragdoll we would. A first year with a Ragdoll costs about as much again as the kitten did, and that is with nothing going wrong.
How to pay
Payment is made in full when you collect, or before the kitten travels if it is flying to you. You sign the purchase contract online before hand-over, and it is written in full on that page. We give you a receipt and a copy of everything in the health record. We do not ask for money for a kitten you have not seen in photographs taken that day, and we do not take deposits on kittens that have not been born.
A note on very cheap Ragdolls
A pedigree-looking kitten at a few hundred dollars from someone who wants a deposit before you have seen it, cannot show you the mother, and wants to meet in a parking lot at night is the pattern of every cat scam in the country. We say this because people write to us after it has happened. A real breeder will show you the kitten, the mother and the record, and will not rush you.
