Ragdoll Kittens for Sale in Texas

Texas is four cities pretending to be one state. Dallas to El Paso is further than London to Warsaw, so the first question is never "can a kitten get to Texas", it is which airport is actually yours.

How a kitten gets from Sedona to Texas

Choose a kitten, call us, and tell us which Texas airport is yours. We send photographs taken that day, a $400 deposit holds the kitten, and on travel morning a flight nanny carries it in the cabin from Phoenix to Dallas, Austin, Houston or San Antonio. Two hours in the air, one handoff at arrivals, and it is yours.

Which Texas airport is yours?

Phoenix flies nonstop to all four of the big ones, and the right one is simply the shortest drive from your door. Dallas-Fort Worth and Love Field cover North Texas. Austin-Bergstrom covers the Hill Country and everything along I-35. Houston has Bush and Hobby, and Hobby is usually the easier handoff of the two. San Antonio serves South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, though families in the Valley sometimes fly into Harlingen and drive.

Flying time from Phoenix is about two hours to El Paso and Lubbock, a little over two to Dallas and Austin, and closer to two and three-quarters to Houston. It is a short trip by any standard, which is one of the reasons Texas families buy out of state without thinking twice about it.

Driving from Texas to Sedona

Plenty of Texans do drive. From El Paso it is about seven hours on I-10. From Dallas or Houston it is fourteen to sixteen hours, so families usually break it in Las Cruces or Tucson overnight. If you are driving in June, July or August, cross the desert stretch between Tucson and Phoenix early in the morning, and never leave the carrier in a parked car: an Arizona parking lot at two in the afternoon is over a hundred and twenty degrees inside a vehicle within minutes.

The Texas heat problem, at both ends

This is the one thing that moves dates. Airlines will not board an animal when the ramp temperature is above their limit, and from May to September that rules out most of the middle of the day in Phoenix and much of it in Dallas and Houston. So Texas kittens fly in the morning, and if a week is forecast to be brutal at both ends, we wait for the next one. It is a delay, not a problem, and it is the sort of thing we tell you before you have made plans rather than after.

Living with a Ragdoll in Texas

A Ragdoll in Texas is an air-conditioned cat from May until October, which suits the breed: they should be indoors anyway. Conditioned air is dry, so put water in more than one room and comb twice a week. Fleas and heartworm run all year in the south of the state, so talk to your vet about prevention at the first visit rather than in spring.

The other Texas habit worth breaking early is the open back door. A Ragdoll will walk out of it, sit down in the yard and wait to be collected by whatever finds it first. Indoors, or a screened porch you have checked twice.

What it costs, and what is tested

$800 a kitten, every color and sex, with everything on this list. Travel is quoted for your airport and never bundled into the price. Both parents are DNA tested for HCM and PKD, the two inherited conditions the breed is known for. Every kitten leaves vaccinated and wormed for its age with the written record, seen by our vet, microchipped and registered in your name, and litter trained. Everything that travels with it.

Questions from Texas families

01

Which Texas city do most of your kittens go to?

We have families across the state, and the airport decides more than the city does. If you are in the Valley, in West Texas or in the Panhandle, tell us: the nearest nonstop from Phoenix may not be the airport you expect.

02

Do you ship Ragdoll kittens to Texas?

Yes. A flight nanny carries your kitten in the cabin from Phoenix to DFW, about two hours, and hands it to you at the airport. Or you fly to Phoenix, meet your kitten, and carry it home on your return flight.

03

Which airport should I meet the flight at?

Whichever is the shortest drive from your door. In Texas that usually means DFW, IAH, AUS or SAT. Tell us which and the flight is booked to it.

04

How much is a kitten, and what holds one?

$800, every color and sex. A $400 deposit holds your kitten and comes off the $800. It transfers to another kitten if you change your mind about which one. If you cannot go ahead at all, $300 of it is refunded. Travel is quoted separately for your airport. What the price includes.

05

Are the parents health tested?

Both parents are DNA tested for HCM and PKD, the two inherited conditions the breed is known for. Our cats.

06

Can I drive to Arizona instead?

Plenty of families do. From Texas it is about fourteen hours by road from Sedona, and you meet the kitten, meet us, and take it home yourself. Either way nothing is paid for a kitten you have not seen photographed that day.

07

When can a kitten travel?

From 12 weeks, and never in the same week as a vaccination.
