Ragdoll Kittens for Sale in California

The breed started in California. Ann Baker bred the first Ragdolls in Riverside in the 1960s, which is a pleasing thing to tell a California family and no help at all when you are looking for a kitten today, because the demand here has always outrun the number of litters.

How a kitten gets from Sedona to California

Californians have a choice nobody else does: drive or fly. Choose a kitten, call us, and a $400 deposit holds it. Then either meet us in Sedona after a morning on the road, or have a flight nanny carry it in the cabin to LAX, San Diego, SFO, San Jose, Sacramento, Orange County or Ontario.

California is close enough to drive

It is about seven and a half hours from Sedona to Los Angeles, six and a half to Palm Springs, and eight to San Diego, all of it on good road. A sizeable share of our California families simply drive: leave early, meet us late morning, and be home for dinner with the kitten asleep on somebody in the back seat. It costs fuel rather than a flight, the kitten never changes hands with a stranger, and you get to see who you bought from.

From the Bay Area or Sacramento it is eleven to twelve hours, which is a long day, and most families that far north fly instead.

Or fly, from any of seven airports

Phoenix has nonstop service to Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Orange County and Ontario. Flight time is between an hour and a quarter and an hour and fifty minutes, so a flight nanny can be with your kitten at your airport inside a morning, or you can fly in and carry it home in the cabin on your return leg the same day.

What California asks of a Ragdoll

Very little, which is why the state suits them. Mild, dry and indoors all year is close to ideal for a semi-long coat. Two local things are worth planning for. Wildfire smoke, which a cat should never be out in and which is a reason to keep indoor air filtered in late summer. And the practical business of evacuation: a carrier you can reach in the dark, and a photograph of the cat on your phone, are worth more than any amount of good intention.

If you rent in California

Ask your landlord in writing before you pay a deposit, not after. Rental rules on pets vary enormously across the state and a Ragdoll is a fifteen-year commitment that has to move house with you. We would far rather lose a sale than have a kitten come back to us because a lease said no.

What it costs, and what is tested

$800 a kitten, every color and sex, with everything on this list. Travel is quoted for your airport and never bundled into the price. Both parents are DNA tested for HCM and PKD, the two inherited conditions the breed is known for. Every kitten leaves vaccinated and wormed for its age with the written record, seen by our vet, microchipped and registered in your name, and litter trained. Everything that travels with it.

Questions from California families

01

Is it true Ragdolls started in California?

Yes. Ann Baker developed the breed in Riverside in the 1960s from a white longhaired cat called Josephine. Every Ragdoll alive, including the five in our living room, traces back to those first litters.

02

Do you ship Ragdoll kittens to California?

Yes. A flight nanny carries your kitten in the cabin from Phoenix to LAX, about an hour and a half, and hands it to you at the airport. Or you fly to Phoenix, meet your kitten, and carry it home on your return flight.

03

Which airport should I meet the flight at?

Whichever is the shortest drive from your door. In California that usually means LAX, SAN, SFO or SMF. Tell us which and the flight is booked to it.

04

How much is a kitten, and what holds one?

$800, every color and sex. A $400 deposit holds your kitten and comes off the $800. It transfers to another kitten if you change your mind about which one. If you cannot go ahead at all, $300 of it is refunded. Travel is quoted separately for your airport. What the price includes.

05

Are the parents health tested?

Both parents are DNA tested for HCM and PKD, the two inherited conditions the breed is known for. Our cats.

06

Can I drive to Arizona instead?

Plenty of families do. From California it is about seven and a half hours by road to Los Angeles, and you meet the kitten, meet us, and take it home yourself. Either way nothing is paid for a kitten you have not seen photographed that day.

07

When can a kitten travel?

From 12 weeks, and never in the same week as a vaccination.
